I love this photo, and it is the first I have seen with the two original Christ Church buildings and the German Methodist Episcopal Church. Next to the second of our chapels- the brick building- is the original clapperboard (1811) chapel which was moved to make space for the brick one. It was removed to build our current sanctuary in the late 1860s. The German church was on the current police station site and it looks like the first one which burned in the great fire of 1862. The building on the hill is Troy Unuversity, built by the trustees of our church, but which graduated only one full 4 year class before closing. Drew- of Drew University fame- had promised to back it, as his NYC to Troy ferry service was lucrative – but he ended up backing the other end of his shipping line, and this university had to close. They decided to build the current church shortly afterward.

Please keep the family and friends of the Rev. Dr. Judith Johnson-Siebold in your prayers. Rev. Dr. Johnson-Siebold, 76, died on March 23. She served several Upper New York churches, including Christ UMC in Troy, North Main UMC: Gloversville, Bleecker UMC, South Bethlehem UMC, Ravena: Grace UMC, Rotterdam UMC, Waterford UMC, and Centenary UMC: Greenwich, as well as others. She retired from active ministry in 2019 and served part-time in the New England Annual Conference until 2024. She was married to the Rev. E. Allen Siebold, who also served many Upper New York churches, including Cornerstone Community Church of Lansingburgh, Greene UMC, Endwell UMC, and others. Condolences can be sent to Rev. E. Allen Siebold at 11 Fairview Dr., Portland, CT 06480. Services will be at the discretion of the family.
