Social Action and Missions Team
Meets Third Thursday of the month 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM A volunteer team that discusses and organizes ways CCTroy can pursue and affect social justice issues. Some goals of the team include improving the Troy community’s race relations, decreasing poverty inside and outside of our community, and encouraging total inclusivity in churches locally and globally. New members are always welcome! Please let Pastor Marti or Pastor Janet if you would like to join the email list.
One of the issues that is important to the Team is gay marriage, specifically in the United Methodist Church. The video below is a reading of the open letter that CCTroy wrote to our bishop, Bishop Mark Webb, expressing our passionate belief that everyone should have the right to marry the person they love and to have the pastor of their choice officiate that marriage.
Following Jurisdictional Conferences this summer (meetings of elected United Methodist leaders from 5 geographical areas of the US), Bishop Mark Webb of our Upper New York Conference posted the following on the Conference’s website on July 18, 2016: From the Desk of Bishop Mark Webb
In response, the Council of Christ Church United Methodist approved the following letter on September 25, 2016; it was sent to Bishop Webb with 35 signatures on September 19th. Response to Bishop Webb
